In the late 1980s, has the ambition to develop an ostrich farm outside of South Africa has intensified. Promises were made that high yields, based on sales of ostrich eggs, chicks and birds to other farmers. Higher growth of ostrich farming has gone through four phases clearly identifiable.
In the first phase, begun countries with the necessary infrastructure for production, processing and marketing of ostrich farming on a commercial scale, the rapid growth in capacity. A number of countries were included in this phase, including South Africa, Israel, Zimbabwe and Namibia. Ostrich eggs were exported from Zimbabwe, Namibia and Kenya. The introduction of this phase of Israel was the first country outside of southern Africa into the modern era. Ostrich eggs in the original company of Israeli ostrich farming were smuggled in a suitcase.
In the second phase, we see countries like USA, Canada, Australia, Great Britain and other northern European countries with large holdings of the afoundation in the country, yet the ostriches in the wild. Other countries soon followed this trend, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
